About Us

Sooo, you wanna know who we are and why we blog!?

Well, my name is Stephanie and my husband’s name is Pavlo. Yes, it’s with a ‘v’, that’s not a typo (he’s Ukrainian). Anyways we’re a couple of 20 30 something year olds (it’s hard to admit that we’ve made that shift since starting this blog) building a life and family in the chaotic Washington D.C. area.

I’m that lucky girl who married someone who can fix almost anything around the house and even enjoys (most) of the projects at the same time. No seriously, do you know what it’s like to have a leak in your basement on a Friday night and NOT have to call an outside company for help, or even really worry?!Yes, it’s one of the many reasons why I consider myself so extremely blessed. Pavlo’s that lucky guy who got to marry, well, he got to marry me! Can we say LUCKIEST.GUY.EVER!? Although I’m sure he’d agree, I was actually going to say he’s lucky because I happen to be someone who enjoys design and bought into his crazy plan of buying a dilapidated starter home and renovating it top to bottom. I blame it on the fact that our first child was only 3 weeks old at closing and I was severely sleep deprived. Either way, we ended up with a disaster. Ok, ok, a disaster with potential. The house was in such poor shape that we couldn’t even live in it for the first 9 months of ownership. Yep, it’s true. It’s also true that my mom shed tears when she initially saw the house. Oh but while we’re telling the truth, she also cried when we were finished and decided to sell. To be entirely fair, I cried too. The miserable dump of a house had become a very comfortable home that held many memories of our growing little family. However, after three hard years of renovating, we were ready to move on to the next house and the next adventure.

I’ll never say we moved on quickly after saying goodbye to our first home (every once in a while we’ll still take a spin by it just to kind of say “hello”), but when a charming old dutch colonial popped up in a neighborhood we loved and in our price range, we were beyond anxious to start restoring it to it’s former beauty.

So that’s basically who we are and what we do in our spare time (I did mention this wasn’t a full time gig, right?) We’re a young(ish) couple with a love for renovating and design who are currently working on house #3. I guess I could also mention we have a few great kids who put up with their parents’ home improvement chaos amazingly well. As much as we enjoy seeing the results of all our hard work when it comes to our homes, those kiddos are the best DIY project ever – they’re seriously incredible!
