A Room for a Boy

A Room for a Boy

Ahh, another house, another boy’s bedroom. Before sitting down to write this I actually looked back at the two other rooms we’ve put together for our son, and although I cringe at certain decisions, I love how the designs have changed and evolved right along with our little man. Cringing at our past style choices is something we all can relate to I’m sure. Having been born in the 1980’s, my family’s photos from those early years are proof of this!

If you’re curious you can take a walk down memory lane and look at our little guy’s nursery here as well as his little man cave from house number two here.

Here is a mood board of my thoughts for Landon’s new room:

I actually implemented the industrial bookshelves into my brother’s condo when I helped spruce up his bedroom a few years back. What, I didn’t blog about that either? Shocker! At any rate, I really loved how they looked and knew immediately I’d be doing it for Landon the next time I had the chance. Well, this house became “the chance”! Although pictured in the mood board are actual shelves you can purchase (these are West Elm), for both my brother and our son we brought in a steel worker to customize the designs I drew out for him. In my brother’s room the shelves were built around a dresser (Crate & Barrel) and a television while in Landon’s room a desk was integrated into the design. Fingers crossed that desk gets just as much use as any TV would! Hopefully I will be able to come back around and show more details about my brother’s bedroom makeover, it’s still one of my favorites, but for now here’s a sneak peak of his shelving unit we designed and had installed. I wonder if he’s kept that plant alive?

Storage galore with minimal floorspace being consumed. Ideal in a small condo or in an old house like ours. Here is the design I threw together when Pavlo told me he needed one quickly, yes I used a crayon.

Pavlo and I spent two evenings staining the shelves to match the bed and then waxing them for durability. Once again I’m thrilled with how the shelves turned out and our little lego loving, Harry Potter obsessed, sports enthusiast loves them as well.

I have a few other details to add to the room before a “final reveal” but that shouldn’t take me long. I feel like I literally hear all of you readers laughing at that last line. Not long, ha! Hey, good things come to those who wait and I think his room is going to turn out really cute and worth the wait!
