The Final Four

The Final Four

When I last spoke about our countertop selections I mentioned how we had narrowed it down to two different granites and two different styles of quartz. After getting it down to this point we basically needed to decide between granite (the ever-popular, natural stone) and

Another item that was checked off of the “to-do” list was the framing out and installation of the coat closet door. Yes, the mudroom is progressing on the inside as well as the outside. Remember in this post when I mentioned how Pavlo had framed out

With the amazing weather we were blessed with (until yesterday) Pavlo decided to take advantage of it and work a little bit on the exterior of the new mudroom addition. First on the list was installing the new exterior light fixtures which look like this:

New light fixtures made by Hinkley. We purchased two, one for outside the mudroom door and one for outside the sliding glass door.

We wanted to be sure that their electrical boxes were in the perfect location before adding the siding. If we had to move the boxes, doing it prior to siding installation would be much easier. Fortunately, they were in the perfect location!

New lights installed. Sorry they are so tough to see in this picture. The dark lights against the tar paper = bad combo for a photo!
Looking good all lit up!

With the light locations solidified Pavlo was ready to start with the siding. I mentioned here how productive we were two weekends ago. With a couple extra sets of hands for those two days, we were able to get the new cedar siding primed and ready for install. Here is a picture of the addition before any siding:

We were lucky enough to have one of my brothers come in just in time for the beautiful weather…and siding install! He and Pavlo worked the majority of Monday and really made progress until they reached the part of the mudroom where a window (we’re waiting on a delivery of windows) is going to be installed. The window needs to go in before we can continue the siding so let’s all hope that delivery comes in very soon!

Here are some photos of the progress. The yellow colored siding was the siding that we salvaged from the house (original color) and the white siding is the new primed siding.

Siding going up!

And just incase you wanted a better look at the light fixtures installed:

I should mention that we went with cedar siding because during the framing of this new addition we discovered that the cedar siding around the house was actually in really good shape. Previous owners had merely covered it up back when choosing aluminum siding was “the thing to do.” Since cedar siding is true to the period of our home, we decided we would rip the aluminum off the whole house and restore (really, it just needs to be repainted) the original cedar siding.

On a side note, I know I’ve said it before but Pavlo and I really do have an amazing family. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be nearly this far along on the home renovation. I mean seriously, they’ve stepped in during demolition, framing and painting, not to mention the installation of the cabinets, sink, appliances (like the dented hood) and now the siding! To be honest these are only a few of the items that came immediately to mind, there really is so much more they’ve helped with. So, in case you’re reading this, thank you so much family!
