Master Bedroom…Looks Like We’re Repainting!
After finally receiving our “splurge” of a master bedding set, I instantly began the shopping for additional decor. My initial checklist for the room included curtains, bedside lamps and artwork. I considered these to be the most essential pieces and figured that once they were accomplished all the other accessories in the room would come pretty easily.
Since the bedding set was a quilt pattern atop a striped duvet, it was a little busy and therefore I felt it couldn’t have other items in the room competing with it for attention. My goal for the curtains and lamps in particular was to maintain a clean, simple look while using the colors from the bedding set (cream, soft green and a greyish-blue). This way cohesiveness would be maintained in the room and they would only add to the look of the new bedding set.
I was really proud of myself when I found both the lamps and the curtains in one day, and for really reasonable prices I might add! The curtains I found are a cream colored and in a weaved patterned. I chose non-blackout panels since we already had blinds on the windows. I felt that adding blackout panels to the blinds might make it look too heavy and I was really trying to go for a light and airy look in our master bedroom.
The lamps I found were the perfect greyish-blue with a whitewash. Their shades were a simple off-white with a stripe in the same greyish-blue as it’s base (and of the bedding set). Best of all they only set me back about $40 each. I was so incredibly excited about these purchases and couldn’t wait to set them up. Then once I did my excitement quickly faded. Here’s what I wound up with
Needless to say it wasn’t entirely what I pictured. I liked the lamps, I liked the curtains and I of course loved the bedding set. However, I stupidly forgot take into consideration the fact that the walls (and our bed) were already a beige color (duh, they’ve been like that for at least a year!) When I set everything up I felt like I was in the middle of a big cream puff. Pavlo agreed and when he asked what I was going to do I very carefully broke it to him that he would be repainting! I’m sure there were plenty of other ways to fix this giant cream colored dilemma, but I truly felt that it was the walls washing everything out AND it was the only thing I was willing to/wanted to change…everything else I liked too much. Oh well, I’m sure Pavlo will forgive me someday!
I think I’m going to go with a soft shade of green. Stay tuned for how that turns out!
