Countertop Time!
Last Saturday was the much anticipated countertop installation day. I happen to be out of town but Pavlo was there to watch, ooh and ahh, for the both of us. I’ve said before that the installation of the countertop is my favorite part of a kitchen renovation. Why? Well, the addition of the countertop always makes a huge impact and it does so really quickly. It’s also great that someone else is doing the work…for once! So, as you can imagine, we I was very excited for the granite to come in and for Pavlo to start snapping pictures of them to text to me.
Saturday rolled around and the installers showed up nice and early. They set the countertop above the microwave followed by the counter for the peninsula, and they both looked amazing.
Then they moved on to tackle the sink countertop and quickly realized that the measurements they took were very off. The granite overlapped the sink by several inches. Fortunately the granite company took responsibility and immediately sent back the slab. Because the measurements around the sink were off it threw off all the measurements along that wall and the range wall. The installers explained that when the member of their crew came to create the template he must have accidentally shifted the cardboard he was using, thus throwing everything off from the sink over. At any rate our kitchen looked like this for the weekend:
Monday morning rolled around and this time the kiddos and I went out to meet the granite installers at the house. After a few hours (with VERY patient children) we officially had a countertop!
Yes, I realize it’s pretty cruel to post a picture with the new faucet covered. I promise I didn’t leave it covered for the pictures just to keep it a secret. It actually wasn’t until just now when I was adding the pictures to this post that I realized I didn’t have any pictures where it’s not covered. To be fair it’s not installed yet either so as soon as Pavlo get’s around to doing that I’ll write a post on the “secret” faucet.
