Stephanie & Pavlo’s Favorite Things

Stephanie & Pavlo’s Favorite Things

Much like Oprah does (or I should say use to do) a “Favorite Things” episode every year, we’ve decided to do a “Favorite Things” posts. Of course, when I suggested this to Pavlo and told him that the “Oprah’s Favorite Things” episodes were my inspiration for these new posts, he had no clue what I was referring to but agreed the posts were a good idea. Just for the record, yes, I’m an Oprah fan and no, I don’t think her audience is limited to women! Now, on to a couple of our favorite things.

1.) Craigslist

Number one on our list is most definitely Craigslist. We have found every almost thing including our kitchen sink on this site. We literally found our extra deep, double bowl, 18 gauge stainless steel undermount kitchen sink on Craigslist. A sink like ours usually sells for about $500 on average, but Pavlo found ours for just $60!

We’ve also purchased windows (such as the ones installed in our living room), the 5″ trim found throughout out the main level of our house, tile and a few pieces of furniture (which we are currently refinishing so stay tuned for posts on those). It’s been an amazing way to save money during this massive, and often expensive, home renovation!

2.) Sherwin Williams

It can be a pricey brand but in our opinion it’s worth the extra money. We’ve tried Glidden, a Home Depot brand, and although it did the job we used nearly the entire gallon on a small bathroom. We also weren’t as impressed with the finished product as we were with Sherwin Williams’. Needless to say that bathroom was later repainted with Sherwin Williams. To be even more specific, our favorite is the “Duration” line of Sherwin Williams paints. It covers beautifully and is very easy to maintain. Having a toddler around I have already come across plenty of situations where some scrubbing was needed and the wall was left spotless with no fading to the paint color.

Those are our favorite things for this week. Next week we’ll post a couple more!
