Finishing Touches: Videos of the Completed Basement
I’m sure from the last 3 posts that most of you have a pretty good idea of what the whole basement looks like completed. However, I’ve come to realize that although before and after pictures are wonderful they can make it challenging to completely understand layout and orientation. Because of this I decided to take short videos of the basement guest bedroom and living area. Once you see how talented I am at filming (I’m thinking our next purchase needs to be a tripod) you’ll understand why I didn’t attempt to film a space as small as the guest bathroom.
In the living room we continued the neutral colored, berber carpet that was installed in the basement guest bedroom. The walls were painted a soft greenish grey (Sherwin Williams’ “Ancient Marble”) which beautifully complimented both the carpet and the fireplace tiles. I didn’t want to match either of them too closely and this hue of green was absolutely perfect. From there we added a few decorations and suddenly the space was complete!
Below is a video of the basement guest bedroom. I found it challenging to take pictures of this room in a way that viewers would fully grasp it’s layout so I figured since I was posting the video of the basement’s living area I would post this one too. You can refer to this post if you want to read more about the changes made to this room.
Several visitors have asked us where we got the picture frame collage seen in this guest room. As you can tell it’s not a traditional photo collage and instead the frames are actually attached together. I thought this was kind of a neat twist on a photo collage so while at Ikea I grabbed some of their simple (and inexpensive) “Ribba” style picture frames in several different sizes. Then, after laying out the pattern I wanted, small brackets were attached to the frames as a means of connecting them. We (yup, Pavlo helped too) actually did 3 separate sections of frames for ease of hanging them and of replacing photos.
In case you’re curious as to where we purchased some of our other items or decorations, I’ll be writing another “Favorite Things” post soon. I was going to include the info in this post but it’s just too much. ALSO, since we shop at some of these places so often, I thought they deserved more recognition than one silly sentence!
What color is the trim color?
Sorry for the major delay! I’m hoping to get back to blogging and replying more often. The trim is just white semi-gloss!
I went to Sherwin Williams for Ancient Marble and the staff talked me into a sample of Grasslands.
Grasslands is way to much green.
The staff said that Ancient Marble would be too light.
How would you compare the two colors?
Sorry for the delay! You may have already chosen your color by now but I thought I’d reply anyway. I love Ancient Marble because it’s definitely green but is very light with grey undertones. I know I have tried Grasslands as sample in different rooms but ultimately turned away because it had brownish undertones and was definitely darker. It is a pretty color, just has never been right when I sample it. Keep in mind that every room is different, lighting is different. That being said, I’ve used Ancient Marble in a kitchen, a basement and a sunroom and loved it every time! Hope that helps and it’s not too late! Good Luck!
I live in a condo and am planning to paint it. I have been looking at two colours, rice grain and ancient marble and wondering if to put the living/dining room, very small entrance way, bathroom and kitchen and sun room in rice grain and the bedroom in ancient marble, or vice versa. The bedroom and sun room have windows and are bright rooms facing west. Any suggestions for me?
I’ve used Ancient Marble in a sunroom that was converted into the eating area for a kitchen and it’s perfect! Another color that is very versatile is Conservative Grey by Sherwin Williams. Sometimes it looks grey, others greenish and others slightly blue. Both good choices, good luck!!!
Thank you. I will check out Conservative Grey by Sherwin Williams.
