The Great Wall Of Landon

The Great Wall Of Landon

The last post took us off track from our project of updating Landon’s room so let’s get back to that for a bit. For the last few days I’ve spent any free time I get (which isn’t much) laying out all of the frames for Landon’s wall collage in an attempt to find which is best. I came up with this:

Attempt #1

But then I realized I still had to frame the sketch of Elmo (Elmo was a BIG obsession, we can’t forget him!) Once Elmo was added I came up with this

Attempt #2

After I came up with this I thought, “YES, that was easy! Now let’s paint the non-black frames, print some pictures, frame them and finally, hang them!”

So, on to spray painting I went. I took these 3 frames

Frames before

And using a flat black spray paint I painted them

Frames after

After they dried I took them back to the collage I had laid out and realized I wasn’t as crazy about it as I thought. It suddenly looked a little bit unbalanced. To be more specific it looked bottom heavy. I knew it had been way too easy! So, I tackled the puzzle again and 8 attempts later I finally had one that felt just right.

Final collage layout

I liked how the basketball was off to the side and no longer dominated the collage. I also liked how the Thomas and Friends art DID stand out more in this layout. Since it was one of my favorite pieces I really wanted it to be one of the pieces that grabs the eye, which, for me it does. Overall it just looked more symmetrical, it just looked right.

Now I’m off to sort through hundreds, possibly thousands, of photos to put in the empty frames. After all, we can’t have a collage of items defining Landon without family! Family is just as big of a part of Landon as his little obsessions. Okay, probably even bigger!

Check back soon to see the collage up on the wall!

By the way, if you have any interest in seeing ALL 8 attempts, here they are:

I know, crazy! Can you even tell the difference between all of them?
