Bathroom Reno Numero Uno!

Bathroom Reno Numero Uno!

I know what you’re thinking, where on earth have I been and what does the final kitchen look like?! Well, I can promise that the house hasn’t been in as much of a standstill as my blogging. In fact, the blog has been on hiatus because we’ve been working on so many different parts of the house (not just the kitchen). We’ve seriously been running around like fools making final decisions and purchases, all in a push to get the house to a point where we can move in and then focus on loose ends…like the kitchen backsplash, for example. For now we’re going to settle for a merely functional kitchen!

A messy, but functional, kitchen.

I know, I know, all those posts about the kitchen renovation and now you have to wait even longer for the final product? Yes, and I apologize. Pavlo and I have just found it makes more sense to get into the house and get all the rest of our belongings out of storage. We’d rather spend more money on the house then on a storage unit!

Anyways, now that the kitchen is actually functional we’re moving on to another room that’s very necessary for livability, especially for someone like myself who won’t even camp and reluctantly uses public restrooms! Yup, we’re starting the renovation of one of the house’s bathrooms! For several reasons we’ve chosen to renovate the middle bathroom first. This is the bathroom that our kids, as well as any guests that stay over night, will use.

Here is what the bathroom looked like when we first purchased the house:

Close up of old bath/shower tile in the middle bathroom. As seen above the mosaic was just one wall of the shower.

Then it went through a complete demolition:

The old bathtub was removed because it was an almond color (much bigger fan of crisp white) and after making a few calls we quickly discovered a new cast iron tub was just as much as refinishing the old steel one (cast iron > steel)! We ended up scrapping the old one and making a few dollars on it that way.

And now we’re in the process of rebuilding with the addition of the brand new tub & insulation:

New tub and insulation for exterior walls.

New sub flooring:

New sub floor down.

New cement board on the floors and shower walls:

and finally, new drywall (green board because it’s mold resistant):

Green board is up!

I’m also working on a mood board to show you our thoughts on how to finish out this bathroom so stay tuned for that!
