Another Step Completed
Anyone who knows Pavlo knows that when it comes to these renovation and household projects, he would ALWAYS prefer to do it himself. It’s not that he’s prideful and thinks that he can always do it better (ok, maybe that’s the case sometimes), it’s just that he would prefer to spend money on labor only when it’s completely necessary. Given that we have a budget to stick to, I generally agree with this mindset. There are very few instances in which he very easily calls in extra help.
I do have to say that now that we have two children he is much more realistic in what he can (and should) take on. For example, in the four kitchens we have renovated, 3 have needed gas lines pulled and every single time Pavlo called in a licensed plumber. Another example is how Pavlo didn’t even think twice about hiring a roofing company for our last house. In the past he’s had no problem climbing up there and doing it all himself. These are just two instances of many in which Pavlo hands over the work knowing it’s more cost effective, safer or both.
He’ll also hire out if it is something he absolutely dreads doing. Finishing out drywall happens to be one of these things. Pavlo will hang drywall with very few complaints but let’s just say that finishing it out would not exactly be one of his Facebook “Likes”…if he actually had Facebook that is (I know, who DOESN’T have Facebook? Uh, that would be my husband.) It also happens to be much more cost effective to hire someone to do this while Pavlo works on other things.
It takes some serious skill to finish drywall well and during the renovations of our last house we found a finisher who we have deemed to be “our favorite.” He’s not only really good at perfecting walls (and remember we’re dealing with plaster as well as drywall in this house) but he is also incredibly fast! Both of these traits are important especially with our renovations which tend to have such an incredible amount area that needs to be taped, blocked and skimmed (think walls and ceilings). In instances like this we’re all for bringing in the extra hands!
The finisher came in on Sunday and started with the middle bathroom (the one currently being renovated) the linen and laundry closets, as well as the bedroom closets in the second and third bedrooms. Wondering about the master bedroom closets? Well, we have big plans for that but it’s in a future phase of the renovation.
After Sunday and last night the bathroom is officially ready for tile (yay!) and the closets are ready for priming, painting and then their organizers.

And here’s Landon’s closet. You may remember that because of the massive amount of tools and supplies that are being stored in that room I couldn’t get a great shot of the closet before the drywall finisher came. However, things had to be moved out of the way in order for the finisher to get to all areas of that wall and closet. Here is his closet after the drywall finishing. It is slightly smaller due to the addition of the stackable washer and dryer closet, but it truly is still a decent size and will be beyond functional with the closet organizers.
And here’s where I admit that I failed as a blogger to snap a picture of the linen closet after the finisher did his thing. I know! I’m sorry! Pavlo was doing something that blocked my view of the closet so I moved on to take other pictures and some measurements. When he was done he convinced me to walk to an estate sale going on up the street (not hard for him to do at all) and when we came back I just completely forgot about my picture of the linen closet! Oh well, I think from the pictures of the other three closets you have a general idea of what it looks like.
