Shades of Grey
Ok, just to clarify, I have never even touched a copy of the book 50 Shades of Grey, needless to say actually read the book! So relax, I just found the title appropriate for discussing the color scheme in our new kitchen!
Our cabinets actually came in a few weeks ago but since we haven’t done anything but open a couple of boxes to check ’em out (and boy are they puuurty), I thought I’d first keep you updated on projects that were actually progressing, like the mudroom. However, I love them so much I just have to describe them to you and give you a little glimpse of their beauty!
Early on I decided that the color scheme for this kitchen would be white, blues and, as per the title of this post, greys. Although I love the look of crisp white cabinets, I wanted something just a little bit different so I selected white upper cabinets and dark grey lower cabinets. Below are images from the cabinet manufacturer’s website as examples of the colors I chose, but not the cabinet style.
All of the cabinet doors and drawers are a traditional shaker-style. A style that has proven over and over again to withstand the test of time. It was important to me to select a door style that not only updates the kitchen but remains true to the age of the house. A shaker door definitely accomplishes this.
Another feature of our upper cabinets that is worth mentioning is that they are stacked cabinets. This means that those cabinets are actually 2 cabinets, one above the other. This was done not only because it looks absolutely beautiful with a glass door on the top of the two cabinets, but also because it maximizes storage space in our slightly smaller kitchen. Here is are examples of kitchens with stacked cabinets that have glass upper doors.
Here are the only pictures of our actual cabinets that I’ve taken. We’ve only glanced at them to make sure that they are exactly what we ordered but are keeping them protected in their card board until we are ready to install them. Although these aren’t the greatest pictures, consider it a sneak peak!
Up next, new stainless steel appliances!
