Insulation, Drywall & Footsie Pajamas

Insulation, Drywall & Footsie Pajamas

The title is basically my idea of how Pavlo spent his Saturday night. He probably sees it differently but hey, he’s not the one posting on the blog for you all to see our progress!

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s rewind to last Saturday. Our brother-in-law, Peter, was kind enough to drive into town specifically to spend the day helping Pavlo at the house. Yes, if I haven’t mentioned it before, Pavlo and I have a pretty amazing family when it comes to helping (or putting up) with our many insane house projects.

Lucky for Peter it was time to start insulating and drywalling the kitchen. Yay! Well, I was excited (can’t say Peter and Pavlo felt the same way) because drywall always means the room is starting to be put back together, which I think we can all agree is the best part of renovating.

I always feel terrible that our family members come and help out with some pretty miserable work, and this was no exception. I mean really, no one, aside from Pavlo, wants to spend their free time working on a house! So I have to say that when I received the following picture in a text message from Peter, I felt a little better about working our family members to death and was glad they were at least finding humor in the situation! (Sorry the picture is blurry…actually, maybe it’s best for all of us that it is!)

Pavlo all decked on a Saturday night to insulate!

Attractive right? Reminds me of a style of jammies another certain someone in the family rocks often. Well, except for the hood and mask.

I definitely don’t see Pavlo setting any trends with this garb. In fact, I think we should all leave footsie pajama wearin’ to the little ones! However, I’m glad to see he was taking precautions even when I wasn’t around!

Now for pictures on the kitchen progress. Here is the kitchen and mudroom before any insulation and drywall:

Uninsulated mudroom.

Here they are insulated:

Newly drywalled eat-in area and mudroom, including a new ceiling:

The other exterior wall is our sink wall (well, our future sink wall). Here it is before:

And here it is insulated:

Pavlo was working on hanging that drywall last night so I’m hoping to make it over to the house today to get some pictures!

In addition to insulating and drywalling, Pavlo has also completed several miscellaneous items that needed to be done prior to drywall. He worked on some plumbing for the sink, dishwasher and refrigerator (with a little more to go). As well as prepped the electrical for the new light fixtures. As excited as I am that we will in fact have indoor plumbing, I have to say that seeing the kitchen ready for my new fixtures (due in any day minute now) just makes me giddy.  These fixtures are pretty darn cool and are going to look amazing with the new cabinets and appliances.

Pendant light junction boxes.
Box for light fixture above the sink.

Well, hopefully they’ll come in soon so I can stop impatiently waiting for the delivery guy…and so I can post on it, of course! Did I mention I’m excited to get them? Seriously, receiving orders like this is like Christmas morning to me!

  • Are you sure it is Pavlo? Could be the mail man…but the work is just incredible. I don’t think people really understand. I remember standing on the deck with the bug man as it dropped a few inches, gave me the idea that i needed to lose weight! Of course the babe is gorgeous! I’m ecited to see how the floors and gray cabinets go together.
