Laundry Room (a.k.a The Dungeon) Take 2

Laundry Room (a.k.a The Dungeon) Take 2

So, you might remember how back in May Pavlo and I began cleaning up our dungeon of a laundry room (more on that here and here)? We had cleaned it out, painted cabinets, picked out a new counter for folding (which had yet to be installed) and were moving right along. Then, we had Baby Colette and things came to a grinding halt. Not only did progress completely stop for a while but Pavlo and I drastically changed our minds both on how we wanted the final laundry room to look and on how much money we were willing to spend.

Remember that before absolutely anything was done our laundry room looked like this:

With a new baby comes a lot more laundry so we were in this awful room a lot more after Colette was born and that got us to thinkin’. Even after cleaning the space up and painting the cabinets, Pavlo and I felt that the room still looked too crowded and well, kind of blah. We didn’t have to but we decided to go for it and purchase some new cabinets and shelves from Ikea.

You may think that this wasn’t the most financially intelligent move we’ve made during this whole house renovation, I mean after all it is just a laundry room, but let us explain. First of all, since they were from Ikea they only set us back about $350 total, not a bad price at all! Also, the new cabinets and shelves are slightly narrower then the old ones, this would provide us with more walking space and make the room a lot more open. In addition, we chose tall cabinets so as not to lose desperately needed storage space.

You actually get a sneak peak of just one of the cabinets in the picture below. Pavlo built one right away so that we could make sure it fit like we had hoped and that we really liked it. Good news, we did really like it! However, before the rest could get built and put in place we had to do a little bit of demolition. So, out with the old!

Demo! Removing those old cabinets.

Demo was quickly followed by the rest of the cabinet and shelf assembly. I mean of course there is going to be SOME assembly, they’re from Ikea! But hey, they were a great price and actually went together very quickly. I highly recommend them, especially for spaces like a laundry room where you need extra storage but don’t necessarily need custom cabinetry.

Build, build, build!

Check back soon for a look at the new cabinets and shelf in place!
