Pavlo’s Favorite Part…Paint!
No joke, Pavlo’s favorite part of a room renovation/redo is painting (much like mine is the countertop installation in a kitchen or bath), and now the room is completely painted! Yes, the ceiling, the walls and the trim are done, done and done! (Just in case you’re looking for all of the “before” pictures of the laundry room, head on here or here.)
Starting with the walls, we painted them a soft, light blue
Moving onto the ceiling. Since the ceiling isn’t drywalled we painted it a light grey so that all the wires, duct work and wood blended in together as seamlessly as possible. It was the contrast of all these elements that reminded us constantly that it was a partially unfinished space. Therefore, by having them all the same color it tricks the eyes (and therefore the brain) into thinking it is completely finished.
Finally the trim and doors were given a new clean look with white semi-gloss paint
I realize that I didn’t post any pictures of the laundry room overall and that I just stuck with images of the individual elements. I’m actually going to hold off on those pictures until the final details are completed! Trust me though, it’s really looking pretty darn amazing!
I am glad I stumbled upon your blog! Great basement redo! It looks wonderful and I can’t wait to see the current house projects.
I think part of my message was cutoff. I wanted to know about the track lights. Where did you get them?
Ikea!
Hey there! I am thinking of painting my ceiling white as well. How is the paint over the wiring holding up? I am nervous to paint over wiring… for some reason it makes me feel like its unsafe. Thoughts? Advice? 🙂
Hi! We actually sold that house and are currently renovating a new one, however, for the remainder of the time we were there (about a year) it held up perfectly. It’s safe to do and commonly done in areas with exposed spaces. I should say though, if you’re concerned about it I would call a local electrician first and ask! I honestly put trust in my husband who is an engineer that happens to work in an industry where he is required to have knowledge of what is code for a house as well as safe. Like I said though, a quick phone call to a certified electrician is probably best to put your mind at ease! 🙂
The only time you might see wear is if you paint copper water piping. We used a commercial grade primer to try and prevent this. Warning, it has quite the smell! Also, tape up any light switches and receptacles as once they are painted they just don’t work as well. Hope this helps! We’ll actually be doing this to our current basement in the coming weeks and if I can find the time to blog again I’ll post on it! Good luck on your project.
