Finishing Touches: Laundry Room
The night after grouting was spent de-hazing the tile with a mild acid (literally called a tile de-hazer) followed by giving it a thorough cleaning. After admiring the floor for a few extra minutes we jumped right into adding the finishing touches to the laundry room. These include:
-A shelf specifically for our detergent, fabric softener and bleach.
-A rod to hang freshly ironed clothes or clothing that needs to air dry.
-This handy dandy iron holder (from Ikea)
-And of course no room would be complete without a few decorative accessories. We added a shelf to display something with a small pop of color and “life”. I chose to continue the blue and white theme by using a vase with blue stones and white flowers.
I know, it’s almost pathetically simple, but it really makes a room with cinderblock look more inviting.
I also found this Crate & Barrel outlet store indoor/outdoor rug over a year ago and have stored it away until this room was ready for it. Being that it was at the outlet store it was a great price. On top of that it looks just as good as I had hoped!
Finally, every room needs a little bit of art. This was Pavlo’s from back when he was single and “living the life” with his buddies in a disgusting apartment that they thought was great but that every girlfriend made a point of staying out of. Now every time he does laundry for his family of 4 he can reminisce about the good ol’ days.
And this one was actually a great find by Pavlo at Ikea. We purchased it a while ago and at the time we weren’t sure where we would hang it but we knew we liked it! Lucky for us it was the perfect fit for this spot.

The laundry area looks great! What Ikea system or wardrobe did you use? I like the frosted doors and bench. Were those Ikea also?
Yup, both were ikea. I tall storage shelves with doors were the “Billy” bookshelves. They come with several door options. Good luck!

Hi! Sorry for the delay! When we painted our basement ceiling we actually used a paint sprayer. I don’t remember the exact color for this house but I will tell you that a key component it making it look good is to be sure all the wires are neatly bundled and tied up. good luck!

It’s so nice to see a laundry room makeover with something other than the front-loading appliances 🙂 We haven’t been able to afford the new HE models yet, but that doesn’t mean our laundry rooms can’t still be great! Love the room!
Thank you! We have front loading in our new house but that’s only because we needed stackable for a tiny closet we put them in. I really don’t have a strong preference so long as it cleans my kid’s clothing! 🙂

Congratulations! Looks like a lot of effort but a lot of reward. I especially love what assume to be repurposing of the laundry detergent containers by painting them for softener and detergent…brilliant!
