Window Switcheroo

Window Switcheroo

As mentioned previously, our house still had it’s original, charming windows that we really liked and were thrilled that we’d be able to keep (well, keep all but 3). One window in particular made me slightly weak in the knees and sadly we were going to have to remove it because of plans for a future addition. Although just the thought of removing this window made my stomach churn, I knew that in order to make our future addition work it was going to have to be replaced with a larger window. Here are pictures of the window I’m referring to:

Adorable, old casement window that I just HAD to keep and have re-installed somewhere else in the house.
Window from the outside.

This window is actually located in the third bedroom that I wrote about in the last post. I loved it before we even closed on the house so the second we realized it was going to have to come out, my mind started searching like crazy for a place to put it. I just HAD to keep it!

Pavlo and I threw several ideas out there and finally decided that the mudroom addition was going to be this awesome window’s new home. Remember these pictures of the mudroom newly framed out and insulated?

See that uninsulated rectangle? Yup, home sweet home to my precious window!

Yup, that rectangle framed out with 2×4’s was done specifically for our sweet little window and I must say it looks amazing there!

“New” window installed and ready for trim!

Then came the trim…oh yeah, and the rest of the siding too!

Finished siding with trimmed-out “new” casement window.

You may be wondering what happened to the hole in the wall that was left by removing this window? Well, the opening has been expanded given a brand new window. We needed a larger window in this spot because there’s only one other large window in that third bedroom and it’s going bye-bye with our future addition. In order to keep it a legal bedroom we needed a large window, otherwise it’s considered a safety hazard and it’s against code.

Old, charming casement put into the new mudroom while a new, larger window is installed in the third bedroom.

In don’t know where my mind was when I was snapping pictures of these windows. This window (above) is actually trimmed out on the outside, I just never took a photo of it! I’m also going to get a better picture of the casement window from the inside, the one above just doesn’t do it justice. No worries, I’ll get them soon and add it to this post! For now I just thought it was more important to give you at least some sort of an update after a multiple day blogging lull.

Anyways, not only is our third bedroom one step closer to being completed but now I get to look at this amazing window in my mudroom multiple times a day!
